Product Photography / Photo Editing
At the beginning of our long term cooperation, there was client’s idea to jazz up pictures on their web shop. My first task was to edit all old product pictures and add shadows to them. Since the photos of products were taken in different time period, from different angles, and under various light conditions, it was a real challenge to unify colours across all the images. Despite the fact that I haven’t received the original unedited photos and I had to work with pictures that have already been edited once, I was able to improve approx. 85% of product images. It was agreed later on that I would re-take the last 15% of pictures and make them ready for the web shop.
Making a Product Catalog
From Concept to Sexy Pictures
Once the pictures were edited and uploaded online, I had been asked to make client’s first official catalog including pictures. I was very excited about the project, not only because I enjoy working with text and grid, but also because I knew I could use all my creativity to help the client develop their unique visual style.
As a next step, we defined three key words describing the catalog, namely simple, sexy, and honest. This gave me a rough idea on catalog pictures, so I could start with taking photos of products. I took a serie of photographs that captures client’s product with natural ingredients that are contained in them.
Sketching Out the Catalog Layout
After that, I started making pencil sketches of the catalog layout on paper. Working this way allowed me to decide on amount of pages and to arrange the basic layout quickly.
Designing the Catalog
After the basic layout was worked out on paper, I moved on to styling the catalog in a publishing software. I opted for a modern Scandinavian look and feel. I felt this would reflect the three chosen keywords best and would fit the brand as well. The catalog was printed out eventually and a digital copy was placed on client’s web page.
